September 1, 1998 — the seeds of change were sown.
After working in the landscape field for many years, Bur Oak Landscapes President, Jane Kuzma, saw a need to provide unique landscapes for people who desired something more than the "run of the mill." With the goal of creating distinctive, functional, and beautiful outdoor spaces and a desire to help those who enjoyed working in the garden and wanted help with the conceptual aspects of landscape design, Bur Oak Landscapes sprouted and grew.
Today, Bur Oak Landscapes not only provides complete landscape design and installation for residential and business clients. They provide design services, instruction, and inspiration to people who like to get their hands dirty and install the landscape plan themselves.
Who We Are...
Jane Kuzma, RLA, President —Jane learned her love for and knowledge of plants as a child in her mother's garden. Beyond the names of flowers and plants, she learned to be observant and see how the different colors and textures enhanced one another. With an undergraduate degree in Biology, and extensive studies of Ecology, Jane has a unique understanding of the interactions of plants within the environment. Her love of design drew her into the landscape architecture field, earning her MSLA — Master of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She spent 18 years working for landscape architects and contractors before their production philosophy inspired her to create a different kind of design firm. Jane was inspired to start a creative landscape design business which supported clients choosing self-installation.
A self-proclaimed "Gardener of the Mind," Jane conceives and creates landscapes for those who love to live and work in them. Jane is a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), an instructor at Madison Area Technical School (MATC), and a sought after speaker at garden clubs throughout the Madison area as well as the annual Madison Garden Expo. Jane also conducts annual gardening seminars in February. (see classes)
Bur Oak Landscapes has support staff whom draft plans, take sight measurements, and provide office support.
Strategic alliances provide contacts with quality suppliers and contractors. These relationships enhance the final landscape product.
